She said she'd call at eight,
Clock says quarter till twelve.
She loves to make me wait,
She does it so well.
So I sit by the phone
And I stare at the clock.
So I sit here alone,
Only myself to talk.

And she'll never be here,
Forever just you.
She'll never be yours,
You know that it's true.

The clock's nearing three,
Still no word from her.
But I know she'll call me,
She gave me her word.
She's just running late,
Ignore those sheep.
Just hold on and wait,
Don't miss her in sleep.

She has to be here,
It can't be just you.
She has to be yours,
Your heart says it's true.

I woke to the bells
The next afternoon.
I learn what is Hell
Over the phone in my room.
They called me as soon
As they got the chance.
They found her near noon.
In the air, my number in hand.

And now she can't be here...
Truly forever just you.
She once was yours,
But the moment is through.

She said she'd call at eight,
Clock says quarter till twelve.
She loves to make me wait...
just something i randomly wrote because i randomly thought of the first three lines ("She said shed call at eight/clock says quarter to twelve/she loves to make me wait.") and i really liked those lines, so it built from there.

The beginning is really strong.

what is the "in the air" part. I'm confused about the ending.

Nice work!
